Review: The Anxious Generation: How the Great Rewiring of Childhood Caused an Epidemic of Mental Illness

The Anxious Generation: How the Great Rewiring of Childhood Caused an Epidemic of Mental Illness The Anxious Generation: How the Great Rewiring of Childhood Caused an Epidemic of Mental Illness by Jonathan Haidt
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Probably a must-read for parents these days. Unfortunately the effects of social media are only now being understood, and they are much more profound than we could have thought, especially since they are pervasive and, thanks to the smartphone, omnipresent.

Review: Sharenthood: Why We Should Think before We Talk about Our Kids Online

Sharenthood: Why We Should Think before We Talk about Our Kids Online Sharenthood: Why We Should Think before We Talk about Our Kids Online by Leah A. Plunkett

This mainly brings up questions we will all have in the coming years. I'm not sure how much new material was added. In fact, it would have been interesting to take it further, and see if parents end up trying to "game" the social media system by carefully calibrating their kids' social media presence so that when they are applying for college or a job it shows them in the best light possible from birth. I'm sure this is already happening somewhere.

Review: An Absolutely Remarkable Thing

An Absolutely Remarkable Thing An Absolutely Remarkable Thing by Hank Green
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Very pleasantly surprised. I confess, all I knew of this book was that it was YA, which I usually don't like, and I figured it would be sort of Sci-Fi, which I pretty much never like. Anyway, I ended up enjoying it quite a bit.

While reading it I realized that there was no way a satisfying ending could be written for this, so I wasn't surprised to read in the comments that a sequel is being planned. Although, the ending was pretty decent in itself.
