Review: Lesser Known Monsters of the 21st Century

Lesser Known Monsters of the 21st Century by Kim Fu
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

It might be quickest here to just list the stories I didn't like as much, which were: 'Scissors' and 'Do you Remember Candy?'. All of the others were 4.5 and 5 stars. This is an excellent collection. I bought the book purely on spec in Kyobo (I was on a spree), but I'll be reading more by this author.

Ok ok, if I had to pick, '#Climbingnation' might be my favorite.

Review: Ticknor

Ticknor by Sheila Heti
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I don't know. It took me a while to figure out that the long paragraphs, alternating between first and second person singular, with sentences that sometimes agreed and sometimes disagreed, were all the main character thinking to himself. I thought there might be a dialog occuring, or some jumps in time (still think that might be the case), or possibly some letter writing. A neutral narrator's voice would have helped me to be honest. Maybe I just wasn't in the right frame of mind. Maybe the author overreached. Most likely the former, judging by most of the other reviews.

Review: Death Sentences

Death Sentences by Suzanne Myre

These were very hit or miss. Pretty much all of them discussing either death, pets, or some combination thereof.

Review: Fifteen Dogs

Fifteen Dogs by André Alexis
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

An extremely original and promising premise, which, for the most part, made for a very entertaining and insightful story. Toward the end it seemed to stretch on a bit too much for me, but I'm glad I picked this book up.
