Review: Bird

A short story, which seems depressing right until the very end, which is oddly almost uplifting.

SPOILERS AHEAD:
A man is heavily in debt and plans on using money from a sale to escape. He doesn't get along with his wife, whom he beats. She, in turn, beats their kid, who she gets mad at for being a boy.

The sale doesn't go through. The wife catches the husband cheating, and the boy basically tries to get a new pet bird to bite off his "pepper". But then again, you get a sense that life will go on for all of them, which is comforting in a way.
